Non-Destructive, Contact Free Mechanical Testing of Biological and Synthetic Membranes
Membrane Sample Holder for the ElastoSens™ Bio
The membrane sample holder for ElastoSens™ Bio was designed to test the mechanical properties of membranes
The Membrane Sample Holder of the ElastoSens™ Bio was designed to test, non-destructively and without contact, the mechanical properties of synthetic and biological membranes such as skin, pericardium, epithelial membranes, placenta, connective membranes, engineered tissues as well as dressings and patches for wound care, suture or transdermal drug delivery.
The Membrane Sample Holder is compatible with 12-well plates. Samples can be incubated in well plates between tests under sterile conditions and tested over time and as needed on the ElastoSens™ Bio.
The Membrane Sample Holder comes with a preparation kit that facilitates the loading and the handling of the membrane. All the components of the sample holder and the preparation kit are autoclavable. They were designed for an easy manipulation of the sample with the assistance of sterile tweezers. The Membrane Sample Holder is reusable and easy to clean.
TISSUE ENGINEERING
Control and monitor the formation of tissue membranes by examining the mechanical properties of 3D cell cultures and engineered tissues over extended durations.
EX VIVO TESTING OF NATIVE TISSUES
Measure, ex vivo, the mechanical properties of membrane tissues for bioengineering and medical devices.
FORMULATION OF HYDROGELS
Accelerate scientific discoveries through the expeditious assessment of the mechanical properties of candidate formulations.
NON-DESTRUCTIVE, CONTACT FREE MECHANICAL TESTING FOR BIOLOGISTS AND MATERIAL SCIENTISTS
We designed the Membrane Sample Holder of the ElastoSens™ Bio for the ex vivo characterization of soft membrane tissues, and for the testing of engineered tissues and biomaterials.
The Membrane Sample Holder of the ElastoSens™ Bio can be used to test membranes inside the following dimensional range:
- Thickness: between 250µm and 3mm
- Diameter: 16 mm
Biologists and materials scientists can assess the mechanical characteristics of both synthetic and biological membranes while simultaneously harnessing the distinctive capabilities offered by ElastoSens™ Bio:
- Test biological membranes under sterile conditions by autoclaving the Membrane Sample Holder and measuring on the ElastoSens™ Bio inside the flow hood;
- Test the mechanical properties of sterile samples without contact, thanks to the vibration-based technology of the ElastoSens™ Bio;
- Repeat testing on the same and undamaged sample over long periods of time using a non-destructive mechanical testing technology.

How to measure the enzymatic degradation of tissues and organs using the ElastoSens™ Bio?
Enzymes are commonly used in the field of regenerative medicine to degrade native tissues for the extraction of cells and other components, or as a part of physiological-like fluids to mimic in vivo conditions for biomaterials in development. The performance of enzymes can be measured in terms of weight loss or mechanical properties. The viscoelastic properties of kidney tissue during incubation with collagenase was precisely measured using the ElastoSens™ Bio...
